LNG refuelling station in Ninove, Belgium

There is a huge demand across Europe and globally for cleaner and more efficient fuel solutions. In this rapidly changing landscape, LIQAL works with partners who share their commitment to LNG as a mainstream retail fuel for trucks, trains and ships. This fuel source offers great potential to diversify gas supply in an affordable and competitive way, as well as providing an alternative to diesel in heavy road transport and long-distance transport.

Remitrans was looking for a reliable, cost-effective relocatable fuelling station that could respond to future growth in a flexible way. They also wanted a system that could help in the reduction of CO2 levels and support their goal to switch the fleet from diesel to LNG fuel to contribute to achieving Belgian climate targets.
Our specialist experience in the design, engineering, production and maintenance of LNG refuelling stations, along with our ability to deliver tailor-made projects safely, on time and on budget led to Remitrans appointing LIQAL.

The project in Nivone, Belgium demonstrates the power of our joint partnerships. Learn more about this exciting new project in Belgium.

Scalable solutions and cost-effective

Belgium transport company Remitrans was looking for a quick-response solution that could meet Remitrans existing fuel demands, as well as provide a smooth transition for the LNG station to grow and develop in the future.

Scalable solutions and cost-effective ownership were critical elements for Remitrans, as were environmental concerns. The transport sector is becoming increasingly greener and Remitrans is one of a growing number of transport companies deciding to switch to clean and affordable LNG. The more the sector embraces these low-emission alternatives, the better it is for our environment.

Customised LNG refuelling station

Remitrans commissioned LIQAL to build a new customised LNG refuelling station in Ninove, Belgium.

LIQAL delivered a skid-mounted LNG truck refuelling station providing Remitrans with best in class performance and the flexibility of a relocatable system. The innovative design of the storage tank size means it can be optimised according to expected station throughput, allowing it to grow as required.

The prefabricated nature of the refuelling station led to a shorter construction period with lower up-front investment. “Great for the turnaround time of the project and for our customers’ wallet, which is what we are aiming for” says Joost Jansen, Business Development Manager at LIQAL.

LIQAL oversaw the complete project from design, production to site realisation. After successful implementation of the station, we continue to provide ongoing maintenance and 24/7 service.

Key features of this innovative system include:

  • Advanced online monitoring and trending system station
  • Key Performance Indicators (KPI) report of the station to the clients
  • MID certified fuel dispensers
  • LIQAL’s patented micro liquefaction technology which ensures unlimited holding time of LNG in a 70 m³ tank

The station is compact, with all the technical high-quality elements of a fully-fledged LNG refuelling station. For example, all trucks can be supplied effectively with desired pressure and temperature without the use of liquid nitrogen. Excavation work was limited to a minimum and the system is assembled and tested onsite which led to a reduced turnaround time. In addition, LNG fuels provides the same performance, driving characteristics and fuel economy as the diesel versions.

Remitrans proved with opening a LNG Filling station with nine Volvo trucks running on LNG that you can already start with a small percentage of a fleet. Extra benefits come from making the LNG station publicly accessible and the location saves detour time .

The Remitrans LNG refuelling station near Ninove

With the arrival of its own LNG refuelling station, Remitrans continues to reduce CO2 emissions and improve local air quality. Earlier this year, they were awarded the Green Truck Award.

Their ambition is that 15% of trucks will run on liquid natural gas this year, rising to 30% next year, with as future target to change the entire fleet. “By switching the fleet from diesel to LNG fuel, step-by-step, Remitrans reduces the CO2 emission per truck by at least 20%” says Frank Coppens, Logistics Manager, Remitrans.

The customised design and quick completion of this project from concept to full operation led to lower costs combined with a flexible, future-proof system.

The Remitrans LNG refuelling station near Ninove is operational since the second half of 2019, serving both its own fleet and third-party LNG trucks.
